Message from John from Medford, Johnny the Kid Byers

Hello Everyone,

Happy Holidays, Happy New Year...apologies I've been out of touch, but lots going on.  We'll have an update very soon on what's happening with the local sports teams.

Spring Training is only a month away...2nd week of February...lots of Red Sox news.

I'll leave you with a tantalizer regarding the Red Sox and Ryan Maddson...the Red Sox and the Angels are in a bidding war for former Philadelphia closer Ryan Maddson.

Patriots are making a run for the playoffs...we'll have a lot to talk about.

Stay tuned

john byers running for MAYOR of MEDFORD

Our apologies for not having updated this site in a couple of weeks...John's been doing the campaign thing

http://medford.patch.com/articles/john-byers-announces-mayoral-run

John Byers Announces Mayoral Run

Medford man announces he will challenge Michael McGlynn in November.
&nbps;0 Commen
The following was submitted by John Byers. The statements made are opinion, and do not reflect the views Medford Patch:
Advocate for the disadvantaged and well-known sports enthusiast, John Byers II, has involved himself in Medford politics his entire life.
"Michael J. McGlynn is a great guy, but as Mayor he's been absolutely tone-deaf to the needs of the disabled community" Byers said.
Byers can personally attest to that as he chose not to renew his membership to Medford Community Cablevision, Inc. after he read that McGlynn's own City Solicitor, Mark E. Rumley, dubbed TV 3 "Equal opportunity slappers" yet McGlynn's Administration failed to address the voluminous complaints that have filtered in to City Hall.
"McGlynn is in his 24th year with no term limits, no well-funded opposition and City Councilors mocking him regularly and calling him 'King.'  The sense of fatigue around the entire city, McGlynn Fatigue...is extreme; the irritation to Medford voters so palpable you can almost touch it," Byers said.
Known as "John from Medford" as a frequent caller on 850 AM WEEI and 98.5 FM WBZ radio stations, Byers brought Damon Amendolara from 98.5 to TV 3 Medford and planned on interviewing Larry Lucchino until the station broadcast "Dirty Talk Live" and the city became a joke in the local broadcast television news media.
"Mayor McGlynn asked me why I didn't want to go back to TV 3 and failed to help me resolve the situation." Byers said. "I moved to a different station and interviewed Mr. Lucchino for my new show outside of the Medford City Limits...but why should residents have to go elsewhere when the Mayor has City Hall enjoying 3% of the franchise fee attached to your cable bill...and no accountability for the 2% he does give to public, educational and governmental access TV."

John Byers will accept no more than $30,000.00 salary as Mayor, and he challenges McGlynn to do the same.
"McGlynn brought home $141,296 last year," Byers said. "Over 24 years he has made well over a million dollars as Mayor, closer to two.  If we have to cut jobs at City Hall let's remove the person who is the 7th highest paid person on the government payroll in Medford."

Byers has a number of other issues he will unveil along the campaign trail.  If you believe in change, if you aren't afraid of a person who actually cares about you running the city despite having a handicap (and Byers cites John C. Curran, former Woburn Mayor, flourishing in Billerica as Town Manager as one example of the benefits of a person with a disability holding office), then vote John Byers on November 8th.
If President Obama is Change You Can Believe in, John Byers is Change that Medford Desperately needs.

Friday morning 12:14 AM June 3, 2011

12:14 AM

The Boston Red Sox just finished a rough part of their schedule of 20 games in 20 days. They posted a record of 13-6.  They have two more instances on their schedule where they have a number of games without a day off.

They will have another stretch of 20 games in 20 days beginning July 22nd through August 10.  They will have a day off on the 21st of July during that next stretch and their next day off won't be until August 11.

The good part about this is, 14 out of the first 20 games are at home and then they will have a 13 game in 13 days schedule which will begin August 30th through September 11 and that will start off with a series against the Yankees at home and end on the road with a series against the Tampa Bay Rays.  Hopefully, by the time we get to that portion of the schedule, the Red Sox will have clinched a playoff spot...or be close to clinching a playoff spot.

As Dice-K Matsuzaka, it's looking more and more like he's going to have Tommy John surgery.  This hurts him in two ways...he will have to go through rehab up until next season, and it just so happens that next year is his free agent year, so what team is going to want to take a chance on him after he's done with his contract with the Sox.

FOOTBALL NEWS
Adam Scheffter of ESPN Sports, one of their NFL insiders, reported that last week the owners and players got together in a secret meeting to discuss plans to take care of their problems ...involved in the meeting for the owners was Bob Kraft of the Patriots, Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys and John Marra of the Giants.
Some good things came out of the meeting, but they're not disclosing what was said.  If all goes well, the season could start on time.

Tune in for more updates and check out between 8:20- 8:30 PM tonight http://www.wincam.org

Happy Memorial Day

More to report later on what's happening with the Red Sox; Adrian Gonzalez just hit a home run at 7:33 PM and the score is 2-1 White Sox...

Jon Lester looks good...he gave up a couple of runs in the first inning but he's looking good.

11:42 PM Johnny Speaks Saturday 5-21-11

The Red Sox had a very tough game tonight against the Cubs; one big inning for the cubs meant the difference.  An 8 run inning by the cubs - which was made possible by three Red Sox errors - was the difference in the game.

They had a 3-2 lead in the 8th when all that stuff happened thanks to Tampa Bay losing today they would have been at least tied for first base with the Yankees, who also won.  But, instead, the Yankees are a half a game ahead of us in first place.

I have some interesting stuff...stats between 1918 and this year.  When the Sox and the Cubs met in the 1918 series...in the first game the teams scored a total of three runs combined; last night combined runs scored were twenty!   Time of game in 1918 - one hour and forty-six minutes.  Time of game last night, three hours and thirty-five minutes.

Attendance  1918 - 15,235
Attendance  2011 - 37,140

Price of admission 1918 - $1.65
Price of admission 2011  - 55.00 on average

Thanks to ESPN Baseball Tonight for the stats.

As another aside, Major League Baseball network - for the last two and a half months - has been doing a countdown once a week for the top 20 games of all time in major league history and the Red Sox make a number of appearances on this list.  They is from the MLB website

#17  Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS Yankees / Red Sox  Dave Roberts steals a base, Big Papi hits 12th inning walk-off game-winning run.

#11 1978 1 game playoff Yankees vs. Red Sox Bucky Dent walk-off home run for Yankees

#8   ALCS 1986  Angels vs. Red Sox game 5 ALCS, Henderson home run sends series back to Boston.

#6  Game 7, ALCS Red Sox v Yankees, Boone walk-off home run in 2003

#3   1986 Game 6 of World Series   Mets vs. Red Sox  Ball through Buckner's legs

#1   Game 6 of the 1975 world series, Red Sox vs Reds, Carlton Fisk 11th inning walk-off home run to end the game.

keep watching Sports Talk with Johnny the kid.

Big Win For The Red Sox Tonight

11:22 PM   Big win for the Boston Red Sox they needed all nine innings and a good outing by the bullpen to get this win after only an 86 pitch outing by Josh Beckett.

And again the hero of this game (for the second time this week) was Carl Crawford, one of the newest members of the team - with a game-winning bases loaded single. That was a solid hit.

And now, get ready for THE CUBS as they make their re-emergence to Fenway Park starting this weekend.  On Saturday night it's going to be a special night...THROWBACK NIGHT...the teams are going to wear the same uniforms they wore in 1918...the 1918 Sox uniforms and the 1918 Cubs uniforms will be worn by the two teams.

The only shame about this Cub's visit is that it doesn't come next year when Fenway celebrates its 100th Anniversary...that would make it even more special.

On Visual Radio Live on Friday night, May 20th, at around 8:20 PM on http://www.wincam.org I will be talking about The Red Sox and the Cubs games with updates, and a little bit about the current signing that took place tonight.

AND ...a very special announcement about an event coming up next week.

Breaking News:  http://redsox.com  The Red Sox tonight signed 36 year old pitcher Kevin Millwood.

10:41 PM John Byers Update

I'm sitting here watching the Red Sox / Yankees game being played in New York, which the Red Sox are currently leading 6-4.  A-Fraud made a key error in this game to give the Red Sox a key run...full count on J.D. Drew. (Bases are loaded as J.D. drew a walk.  Jed Lowrie struck out; out of the inning).

As we look ahead...it's going to get very interesting this week as bad weather is headed for the Boston area over the next four days. Despite the Red Sox having a huge homestand of 7 games coming up, any of the first four games could be postponed.  We'll keep you posted.  If the two games, Wednesday & Thursday night - against the Tigers, next week we could be looking at two doubleheaders as the Sox play in Detroit...potential doubleheaders on Thursday and Sunday afternoon.

TV Talk
They had two veteran announcers with John Miller and Joe Morgan  - they seem to be going for a younger demographic, after 25 years of having those two guys they've started this year with this crew...Oral Hershiser, Bobby Valentine and Dan Shulman.

11:25 PM Johnny Speaks

Saturday night on Fox's broadcast of the Red Sox/Yankees game, Actress/comedia Sarah Silvermen was talking about the Red Sox success since winning the world series and commented on how she's used to being a loser...when rooting for the Red Sox...and with all the success they've had in the years since winning the world series.  It made me angry.  My response to Miss Silvermen is...HEY if you can't enjoy it, pass in your fan card.  No Boston fan should be worried about losing anymore...we are winners. Look at the success we've had with our teams, except for the Bruins.

Get ready for SPORTS TALK

Johnny Byers Speaks  8:14 PM Wednesday night

Let's start with the Red Sox.  "The Sox are a struggling team right now after their 6 and 5 homestand, and their o and 1 on the road currently with 4 games to go.  Their in a game right now, down 2-1 in the bottom of the 4th to the Blue Jays.

The score of the Celtics is Boston 47 to Miami's 44...down in Miami.
That's the halftime report.  And we'll be right back.

8:52 PM Adrian Gonzalez hit a home run to put the Sox within 2 runs of Toronto...Top of the 6th with two outs.  Ortiz, Big Papi, just launched one...now it is 4-3 8:53 PM THANK YOU, DAVID!

The Celtics are up 68-66 against the heat at 8:53 PM.  I'll be watching the Celtics game immediately after the Sox for more commentary.
______________________________________
We'll also talk a little bit about the Bruins as they are up against the Tampa Bay Lightning and it will be 19 years to the day since they last made it this far!  In their history of getting to the conference finals they are o and 2.  As they lost back to back seasons in 1990 /1991 season, and then the 1991/1992 season to the Pittsburgh Penguins in 7 games both years, after they were up 3/0 in the series and had a chance to put Pittsburgh away - they were up 5/0 both years in the 4th game...

They ended up losing the series in 7 games to Mario Lemieux

Celtics score now at 8:56 PM 73/71 Celtics over Miami at the end of three quarters.
_______________

As for the NFL...the league has announced if there isn't a settlement by mid-June they will start canceling games.  Training camp usually starts in July, it wouldn't start until the end of July if the talks don't result in some kind of agreement.

Hey - this is Johnny "The Kid" Byers telling you to watch my blog.

Today I met Gilbert Gottfried at WinCAM ...more information to follow.

He was very funny, exceedingly funny...he had me rolling on the ground with laughter...and he said "SON OF A BITCH" for me!
